This week we launched the newest Ellis Brooklyn scent SUN FRUIT here in the UK with a gorgeous evening at the Hotel Bloomsbury, London.  Attended by brand founder Bee Shapiro herself, a mix of fanatical fragrance influencers and press were invited to join her for a meal, and got a chance to ask all their burning questions

If you’re not familiar with the brand or its founder, Bee Shapiro is a beauty columnist for the New York Times. With an affinity for words, this base of inspiration helped spawn the niche fragrance brand Ellis Brooklyn, the effects of which can be seen threaded throughout her perfume line

That’s why it made perfect sense to host the launch for SUN FRUIT in the Bloomsbury’s Seamus Heaney Library. Surrounded by books and polished parquet, guests sat down with Bee for a delicious meal and soaked up the chance to learn more about the brand which already does so well in the US, and is fast gaining traction here at home

It was also an opportunity for guests to sniff SUN FRUIT itself and discover the inspiration behind it. A poem titled Forbidden Fruit by Emily Dickinson was at each place setting and read, ‘Forbidden fruit a flavour has That lawful orchards mocks; How luscious lies the pea within The pod that Duty locks!’

Setting the tone for the perfume inside that vibrant chartreuse bottle, the scent is described by Bee as a reinvention of the fruity floral. We know when we say ‘fruity floral’ there are immediate connotations that spring to mind, but don’t be fooled; this scent is entirely unexpected. There’s fresh fig, bergamot, handpicked jasmine, cyclamen and vanilla blended into something highly addictive. In short, it’s pulpy, rich and smells like sunshine

If your interest in this niche brand is piqued, you can find Ellis Brooklyn scents residing in the glorious department store that is Liberty. We recommend paying them a visit to really discover these scents in person. Be drawn by the coloured glass bottles, marvel at the literary connotations and sniff to your heart’s content

Little tip; Ellis Brooklyn scents are really fun to layer, so try out some different combinations while you’re there!
